Last night at the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards, The Bannen Way cleaned up with three more awards, bringing the total to 4. It walked away with Best Drama Series, Best Director (Jesse Warren), and Best Male Actor (Mark Gantt). What a ride this has been. Let's hope this is just the beginning.

The Streamy Craft Awards were held Wednesday evening at the Barnsdale Theater in Hollywood. Amongst the many categories was Best Editing, and we won for our work on The Bannen Way!

Editing Season 4 of Burn Notice!

After years of hard work, sacrifices, and doing whatever it takes to survive, I've finally landed my dream job. Starting March 15th, I will be one of two editors (the other is Casey Brown) editing Season 4 of Burn Notice. I'm a huge fan of the show, so getting the opportunity to work with this cast & crew is amazing.

I am taking over for editor Steve Lang who has been on the series since it began. He is currently on another show and his schedule will not allow him to return for several months. A few months ago I contacted him as a fan of the show, and in the process he became aware of my work on The Bannen Way. He loved the show so much that he forwarded my reel to the creator and executive producers. After a long process of interviews, studio approvals, and network approvals, the wait is finally over.

What does this mean for Fix It In Post? Business will continue as usual. I am in the process of bringing on a creative director to serve in my place, and my crew of talented editors will remain. I will remove myself from any active role in daily activities as of March 15th to focus 100% on the show. Details to follow soon.

Production Begins on The Bannen Way

Today marks the beginning of production on The Bannen Way for Sony Pictures Entertainment. The project stars Mark Gantt as Neal Bannen, a debaucherous thief who's desperately trying to go straight but can't seem to escape the criminal lifestyle.

The project will be shot with the RED camera and cut in high-definition with Final Cut Pro. Directing the project is Jesse Warren, and producing are Mark Gantt, Bailey Williams, and Cleo Tegel.

We were just contracted to do an extensive re-edit of the independent feature film BLUE. The film is a gritty, urban character drama about Gary "Blue" Meekins, a boxer trying to escape his criminal past to become the middleweight champion of the world.

Our job is to take a film that's already won several film festival awards and turn it into a lean, mean fighting machine (pun intended).

BLUE is directed by Ryan Miningham, written by and starring Don Wallace, and produced by Jamie Guest. You can view the trailer here.

In 2008 I embarked upon the journey of producing a documentary about the life of Christopher Rush, a close friend of mine who died after living with muscular dystrophy for over 30 years.

We have been fundraising for the film since last year, and to help raise awareness for the project, we have been working on a promotional reel. It includes archival footage from Chris' life as well as interviews shot in the Grand Cayman Islands August of last year during the one-year anniversary of his death.

'Glass Heels' TV Pilot

For the past couple weeks we've been providing editorial support for an independent tv pilot, "Glass Heels," a single-camera comedy shot with the RED camera.

Directing, writing, and producing the show is Bennie Richburg Jr. (Jamie Foxx Show, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), and co-writing, producing, and starring in the show is Joyful Drake.

The RED dailies were transcoded using RedRushes to Apple ProRes422 1920x1080 which we edited natively with Final Cut Pro.

Producing the pieces is Craig Byrd with Mob Scene Creative + Productions in Beverly Hills. FAME is a Lakeshore production and an MGM film.

Bannen Way Sold to Sony Pictures Entertainment

Last year we provided editorial for two pilot episodes and the sales trailer of THE BANNEN WAY, a then independent web series directed by Jesse Warren and starring Mark Gantt as Neal Bannen. Sony Pictures Entertainment has just purchased the show and will feature it on their multi-platform website CRACKLE.com. Production begins later this year.

This is a project we believed in from day one before it was something. We're incredibly excited to provide all the creative editorial for the first season of the series. The show is shot with the RED camera and will be edited with Final Cut Pro software. Media will be transcoded to DVCPRO HD files that are stored on a Facilis media server and shared with edit station via a fiber network.

Graphic Design for Miss March

We recently provided graphic design services for the upcoming Fox Searchlight picture Miss March, having designed both the opening credit sequence and the end credits crawl. We worked with our friends over at Sneak Preview Entertainment who produced the film which releases March 13th, 2009. The film is directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, two of the "Whitest Kids U Know."

500 Days of Summer at Sundance

We recently worked on the end credits for a great film, 500 Days of Summer. It's a project produced by Fox Searchlight and our good friends over at Sneak Preview Entertainment who we also worked with on A Dennis the Menace Christmas, Beautiful Loser, and Phat Girlz.

Editing The Indie Feature Raspberry Magic

I was recently hired to edit the feature film Raspberry Magic, written and directed by Leena Pendharkar. The film is a a coming-of-age story about 11-year-old Monica Shah, who thinks she must win a science fair in order to bring her father back after he runs out on the family. She blames herself for her parents' problems, and takes charge when her mother falls into a deep depression. Set behind the backdrop of a beautiful forest, Monica's experiment uses touch therapy to help raspberries grow faster. It is a blend of light-hearted comedy, heartfelt drama, and great character development. I am looking forward to being a part of this project.

Some stars include James Morrison from '24,' Alison Brie of "Mad Men,"Maulik Pancholy from "Weeds," and it stars young newcomer Lily Javaherpour as Monica.

Post-Production begins January 12th and is scheduled to complete May 1st. Check back for updates.

Working on The Soloist

For the past few weeks and for the next couple of months, we will be busy providing featurette and behind-the-scenes content for the film The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. All of the content is being produced by Tom Grane and Craig Byrd at Mob Scene in Beverly Hills and we are providing creative editorial support for several different projects.

The first featurette is already posted online. Jessica Rosa at Mob Scene was co-editor for the 3-minute piece "An Introduction to the Soloist."

The Soloist releases nationwide November 21st.

Edited Opening Sequence for Disney Documentary

Grand Caymans Shooting A Success

I just returned from a week of shooting in the Grand Cayman Islands where I was shooting documentary footage for my new documentary feature GO FAR: The Christopher Rush Story. I had the opportunity to shoot ten interviews for the film with various family and close friends of Chris, and I also recorded the service where Chris' ashes were spread amongst the reefs he used to scuba dive.

My next phase of production is raising additional funds to travel to Las Vegas with my high-definition film crew to sit down and interview Tony Orlando and Jerry Lewis, two close friends of Christopher throughout his life, especially his earlier years as the national spokesperson for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Fix It In Post is currently in development with its first foray into making a movie, not just editing it. A website will be up very shortly that describes the project. In short, Go Far is a non-profit feature documentary about a close friend of mine, Chris Rush, who passed away last year from complications associated with muscular dystrophy. This film will be a non-profit whereby all money the film earns (either through distribution or sales) will go towards charitable entities, most notably to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to continue their ongoing research for a cure.

I am currently in the process of building a 2nd High-Defintion Final Cut Pro Edit Suite that will include 4TB of storage over a shared Facilis Fiber Network. This will allow the ability to share media with an additional editor or assistant editor, and it also will allow me to take on more work as I'll have two bays working at once.

I expect this growing process to be complete within 2-3 weeks. At that point I will be able to take on several projects at once with a junior editor working at my side.

I apologize for the long delay in posting updates, but I just returned from a long hiatus due to getting married and celebrating with a honeymoon in Hawaii. Yes, life is rough.

Right now I am finishing up a package of DVD special features for A Dennis the Menace Christmas, the feature film I just finished for Warner Premiere. I also recently wrapped on the International Special for Live Free or Die Hard that aired all over the world (except, of course, in the United States) shortly before the release of the film.

As of July 23rd I am available for short and long-term bookings on feature film projects, theatrical marketing campaigns, and television projects.

Wrap One Project and Another Comes Rushing In

Lo and behold, not even a day afterwards, and I'm now cutting a 25 minute international tv special for Die Hard 4.0 starring Bruce Willis in his latest outing as John McClane. I also just completed an independent trailer for a film titled Hotel California in my "spare time."

Fix It In Post Productions is MOVING!

As of August 15th, 2006, I will be working as a semi-permanent freelance editor for a theatrical marketing agency called MOB SCENE in Beverly Hills. I spent several months freelancing for the company just as they were starting out in January. I will be working with clients such as HBO, Dreamworks, and Sony Pictures. While there earlier this year I worked on projects such as Entourage, Comeback, Talladega Nights, Little Man, Dreamgirls, and the ABC Primetime Sitcom Sons & Daughters.

Beautiful Loser Update

Hello All,

I have received a lot of inquiries regarding the status of Beautiful Loser, so I guess it's time to update. The director and I have been working night and day the last six weeks to whip the film into shape, and we're quite pleased with what we have so far. I cannot give out any specific information regarding the film, e.g. theatrical running time, what made the final cut, or when the film will be completed. But rest assured, the film is going well, and the next phase of the process is to run the festival circuit (Toronto, Sundance, etc.), and then secure theatrical distribution.

Thank you all for your interest in the film. It's nice to know there are a lot of eager people awaiting this film we are working so hard to make great.

Phat Girlz Opens Nationwide Today

It's April 7th, a year and a half later, and Phat Girlz opens nationwide for the general public to view today. I started this project October 4th, 2004, and it's great to see so much hard work and energy finally paying off.

I would like to put out a final thank you to the producers and the director for taking a chance on a young trailer editor to take the helm and edit their feature film. I learned a great deal about filmmaking, as well as life in general in the process. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

JVC HDV Workflow: From 24p to 35mm

For those editors out there who have been drowning in the HDV format, barely able to comprehend the HDV workflow when filming out to 35mm film, I have found a good workflow until Apple gets their SH*T together and supports the JVC GY-HD100 camera. Please keep in mind, this workflow requires extra time for frame rate conversion (from 60p to 24p), and it also requires two external pieces of equipment:

The AJA KONA LH Capture Card
The JVC BR-HD50 HDV Deck

The step-by-step workflow is posted on the LA Final Cut Pro User Group's Forum Page (see right column for link).

Hopefully this helps out any editors ready to hang themselves after realizing they have to work with the most dreaded digital format on the planet - HDV.
